Annabelle Bond is an acclaimed mountaineer, recognized as the fastest woman to conquer the Seven Summits, scaling the highest peak on each continent in just 360 days—a record that held for eight years. She became the fourth British woman to summit Mount Everest in 2004 and later embarked on an expedition to the North Pole with SAS Prince Albert II of Monaco, raising awareness for global warming. Known for her endurance, Annabelle completed extreme races in Namibia and the Sahara to support ovarian cancer research, raising $1.8 million with the for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Honored with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and as honorary Colonel of the Chilean Army, Annabelle is also a dedicated speaker on goal-setting and a champion of nutritional education, particularly for children, through her work with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
Breaking Personal Barriers
For Annabelle Bond, a life of adventure and resilience began in the outdoors, immersed in sports from a young age. Growing up between Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Singapore, her days were filled with horseback riding, swimming, and tennis—a foundation of activity that nurtured her confidence and independence. "I grew up playing sports in Hong Kong and Indonesia, and that outdoorsy, active life was the best teacher for discipline and focus," she reflects. "Sports gave me a sense of confidence and freedom."
But it wasn't until her mid-twenties that Annabelle's path took a bold turn into the realm of extreme endurance. After joining a then-partner in training for ultra-distance races, she became hooked on the transformative power of pushing physical limits. "I thought, 'Can I push myself to that level?' Running turned into something more than just a challenge; it became empowering," she recalls. Her commitment was intense, with training that meant losing toenails to bruising descents and pulling out a toenail without anesthesia to avoid risking her team's success. "Looking back, I think, 'Wow, that was my level of determination,'" she laughs. "Endurance sports taught me that the only way to grow is to push past the pain. Once I realized that, I stopped being afraid of limits."
Conquering Everest and the Seven Summits
As Annabelle's athletic prowess grew, her ambitions expanded. In 2004, an invitation arrived to join a Chilean team aiming to summit Mount Everest. Despite her lack of formal mountaineering experience, she seized the opportunity without hesitation—determined to prove to herself and others that she could conquer such a formidable challenge. With the Seven Summits now in her sights, Annabelle stood ready to embrace a new chapter defined by mental grit, sheer physical endurance, and a relentless drive to push beyond perceived limitations. "When I got the call to join the Chilean team, I thought, 'This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I know I'm up for it.' I had to be the most determined person out there," she remembers. However, just as Annabelle began training for Everest, life threw an unexpected obstacle in her path: a health scare that would later shape her mission beyond mountaineering. During a routine checkup, doctors discovered a tumor that, while ultimately benign, required monitoring and raised new fears in Annabelle. "I was focused on my Everest climb, and the thought of my health scare couldn't stop me," she recalls.
The climb was grueling and dangerous, demanding a level of mental strength and resilience that few possess. "Everest was a sensory overload. Every step was a reminder of what was at stake, but I was focused on proving to myself that I could conquer it." Everest's icy cliffs and precarious crevasses were constant reminders of the risk, and at every turn, Annabelle was confronted with fear and the humbling presence of mortality. "On Everest, fear was my constant companion. Death was all around us, but that's what makes it humbling," she explains. "It keeps you grounded and makes you respect the mountain… In the Khumbu Icefall, with ladders creaking over sheer drops, you realize fear is something you have to control, or it will control you."
Reaching Everest's summit was an empowering moment that lit a fire in her to go even further. Having conquered the world's tallest peak, Annabelle set her sights on completing the Seven Summits—the highest mountains on each continent. Within just 360 days, she achieved what most would consider impossible, becoming the fastest woman at the time to complete the challenge. "Everest was just the beginning," she says. "It taught me that I was capable of far more than I'd imagined, and it pushed me to continue with the Seven Summits. I think we're all capable of more than we think."

Health Advocacy Sparked by Personal Challenge
Fueled by her own experience, Annabelle became a dedicated ambassador for The Eve Appeal, an organization devoted to ovarian cancer prevention. Her advocacy took on a deeply personal significance, and with each climb, she worked to raise awareness and much-needed funds for women's health. "We raised about $1.8 million for ovarian cancer," she shares. "In my darkest moments on Everest, knowing I was doing it for a purpose kept me going."
"I was climbing not only for myself but for other women too. I wanted to raise awareness and help save lives."
This life-changing experience showed Annabelle the critical importance of regular health checks—a message she champions with unwavering dedication. "My message is simple: if something seems off, get checked," she says. "I was at my fittest and had no idea about the tumor. It's vital for women to be proactive about their health." Her advocacy work has since expanded, and she continues to use her platform to promote health awareness and support for women's medical issues, motivating others to take charge of their well-being.
Balancing Adventure and Motherhood
When Annabelle became a mother to her daughter, Isabella, her life took on new dimensions of both responsibility and joy. Although motherhood required her to step back from the extended trips that mountaineering demanded, she embraced the shift wholeheartedly. "When my daughter came along, I had to find a new balance. I couldn't just disappear to the mountains," she shares. "But I kept up my daily runs and stayed disciplined. It's all about making the best of the time you have."
For Annabelle, the transition from mountaineer to mother came with its own set of challenges. She speaks openly about the exhaustion that comes from balancing an adventurous life with the full-time demands of raising a child. "Motherhood was my biggest challenge and my greatest joy," she reflects. "Balancing that with my own goals was exhausting, but it also kept me grounded. You realize how much strength you actually have."
"Motherhood has been my greatest adventure. It taught me strength in ways I hadn't anticipated and deepened my commitment to living with purpose."
Even as a single mother, Annabelle continued to participate in endurance events, maintaining her commitment to her personal goals while setting a strong example for her daughter. "You find ways to maximize the time with them while still doing your own thing," she says, emphasizing that while the balance isn't always easy, it's a choice she makes with gratitude and purpose. Annabelle has proven that being a mother and adventurer can coexist and complement each other, with each role strengthening the other. Her experiences in parenthood have only deepened her resilience, adding new meaning to her already remarkable story.

Empowering Women through Sports and Community
Annabelle's drive to empower others has extended beyond her personal accomplishments and into her work supporting other women. She starts off strong by sharing: "I love surrounding myself with inspiring women. Every strong woman I meet drives me to be better, and that's what I want to pass on to others."
As an advisor to Arbor Ventures, an all-women venture capital fund, she channels the lessons from her mountaineering days—resilience, discipline, and grit—into guiding women entrepreneurs. "My work with Arbor Ventures lets me empower other women," she says. "I'm a big believer that sports teach resilience, and I love that we're creating spaces for women to support each other."
Annabelle's passion for building community also comes through in her ongoing work with various charity groups, such as her work with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Through these initiatives, she is organizing challenging endurance events around the world, using sports as a means to raise funds and inspire others to push beyond their comfort zones. "We take 100 people to do 100 kilometers," she explains. "We get them out of their comfort zone, we get them fit, and they do it for charity. It's about giving back while working toward something bigger."
Annabelle's belief in the transformative power of sports shines in her advice to women seeking to overcome their own barriers. She explains: "Sports are a great equalizer. It doesn't matter who you are—if you're willing to push yourself, you'll discover things you never thought possible." She encourages them to start small, build confidence through incremental goals, and trust in their own abilities. "I always tell women, just start with small goals. You'd be amazed at how discipline and determination will carry you beyond anything you thought possible," she shares. In doing so, Annabelle not only empowers women to achieve their personal goals but fosters a larger movement of strength, confidence, and mutual support.

Her story—from becoming the fastest woman to conquer the Seven Summits to balancing motherhood with advocacy—showcases the power of self-belief and the extraordinary feats that can be achieved when one steps outside their comfort zone. "I hope my story inspires others to push beyond their comfort zones, to face fears head-on, and to find purpose in every step they take," she says. "Life is too short to play it safe."
"Every woman is capable of so much. It's about having the courage to step forward, even when you're not sure what's ahead."
Annabelle's experiences have shown her that true confidence doesn't come from achievements alone but from the courage to face challenges and dedication to a cause greater than oneself. There's so much out there if you're willing to push past the limits you think you have."
